I attended a talk a couple of years ago given by the president of a local Medical School. He admitted that Western Medicine doesn’t understand how to effectively treat pain. No one likes to see another living being in pain, it’s scary, and as a healthcare provider you feel helpless. So, in an effort to help make the pain go away patients are given narcotic pain medicine. There! Your Pain Is Gone! But, what about the side effects of the pain medication? More medicine? It seems like a vicious circle that doesn’t always have the intended outcome.
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in controlling pain. And here is an article & study that supports the use of acupuncture as part of post-surgical care.
Wow, just think about it. You go to the hospital for an operation and your aftercare includes regular acupuncture treatments. Less pain, less stress, quicker recovery, and no side effects…what’s not to love?
